Deir El Zour: In the eyes of regime forces, tiny Wadak Aghi was apparently a dangerous Islamist extremist, a menace to Syrian society who had to be targeted and killed.
In the eyes of decent human beings with a heart and soul, she was a tiny, utterly defenceless baby girl murdered by a brutal and inhuman regime. Although heroic medics operated for seven hours in an attempt to save her life, her injuries were too catastrophic to survive and she died at Deir El Zour's infamous 'checkpoint of death' (so named because many civilians are randomly executed there by the regime troops manning it) on the main road out of the city as she was being transferred to another hospital on Wednesday June 12th, 2013.
We will not apologise for the horrific and heartbreaking nature of this image; the world should apologise to Syria for abandoning tiny Wadak Aghi and thousands of other Syrian infants and children to be slaughtered by a regime which views them (as it does all Syrians) as "collateral damage."
